2. Why should my business/company have a domain name?
What are the benefits of having a domain name? |

You will need a domain name if you wish to set up a
corporate email address and/or website, e.g. john@yourcompanyname.com.sg
or www.yourcompanyname.com.sg.
With a corporate email address and/or website, you will
be able to:
- allow potential customers to locate you more easily
- present a professional image
- reach out to infinite local or global audience
- expand your business and sell 24/7, even to customers
who have no access to your physical store |

3. What domain name should I choose for my
business/company? |
|
|
|
Your domain name should relate to the name of your
business entity, business activity, product or brand
name. Your domain name is also your branding and
marketing tool. It should be easy to remember and not
easily confused or misspelled. |

4. How much does it cost to reserve a domain name? |
|
|
No fee is charged for reserving a domain name (ending
with ".com.sg" or ".sg") via the Accounting and
Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA)'s BizFile system (www.bizfile.gov.sg).
In order to use the domain name, you can activate the
reserved domain name with Cybersite. When you
activate the reserved domain name, you can enjoy the
promotion for the first year of registration. |

5. How do I reserve a domain name? |
|
|
You can now easily reserve a domain name (ending with ".com.sg"
or ".sg") at the same time when you register a business,
company or limited liability partnership in Singapore,
electronically with ACRA via its BizFile system.
Upon successfully registering and paying for your
business/company registration at the BizFile system, you
will be immediately shown the option for reserving a
domain name. To reserve a domain name:
First check if the domain name (ending with ".com.sg" or
".sg") you want is still available for use.
If it is still available, you will need to provide your
name, contact number and email address to confirm the
reservation request. SGNIC will use this information to
contact you should SGNIC require any clarifications.
Once you have successfully reserved your domain name at
the BizFile system, you will need to "activate" your
domain name with Cybersite at 6224 3770. |

6. I am an existing business/company. How can
I reserve a domain name? |
|
|
|
You can only reserve a domain name at the point of
registering for a business/ company electronically via
ACRA’s BizFile system from 1 Jan 2011. |
|
|
|
7. Can I reserve more than one domain name? |
|
|
|
You can reserve one domain name for each registration of
business, company or limited liability partnership in
Singapore at ACRA's BizFile system. |
|
|
8. How long will my domain name be reserved? |
|
|
|
Your domain name will be reserved for a period of three
months. If the domain name is not activated by the end
of the three-month reservation period, your reservation
will lapse and you will not be entitled for the
promotion. |

9. Can I reserve a "org.sg" domain name? |
|
|
|
No, the .org.sg. domain name is applicable only for
societies registered with the Registry of Societies.
This programme is targeted at entities registered with
Accounting Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) only. |

10. What happens after the reservation period? |
|
|
|
If reservation period has ended and you have not
activated the reserved domain name, that domain name
will be available for registration/reservation again by
any party. |

11. I have forgotten whether my reservation period
has ended. What should I do? |
|
|
You may enquire through the Online Whois search on
http://www.cybersite.sg/searchdomain.shtm
The "Creation Date" will show the date when the domain
name was first reserved. The reservation period will end
three months from the .Creation Date.. Alternatively,
you may approach any our teams in Cybersite or call our
hotline at 6224 3770. |

12. Do I have to pay after the reservation period
ends? |
|
|
|
No, there will be no penalty payment. |
|
|
|
13. How do I activate the reserved domain name? |
|
|
To activate the domain name you have reserved, Sign up
your free account with Cybersite with the following
informations -
(i) For Businesses: Your reserved domain name
ACRA Registration Number
NRIC number of any of the business owners
(ii) For companies: Your reserved domain name
(including PAC) ACRA Registration Number
NRIC number of any company shareholders or directors |

14. I have forgotten the domain name that I have
reserved. What should I do? |
|
|
|
If you wish to activate your domain name, but you are
unable to recall the domain name that you have reserved.
Kindly contact Cybersite at 6224 3770 with your
business/company's ACRA registration number and NRIC
number of the owner/shareholder/director. |

|
|
15. What if I want to change the reserved domain
name? |
|
|
|
You may do so by contacting ACRA for the Necessary
Changes. Please provide a copy of your Biz
Profile (with information on the NRIC of the
owners/shareholders/ directors) and a copy of the NRIC of
any of the owner/shareholder/director for verification. |

|
16. If two requests are submitted to reserve the same
domain name at the same time, who would obtain the
domain name? |
|
|
|
The reservations are accepted on a
first-come-first-served basis. Therefore, the first
reservation received by SGNIC will be accepted as long
as the reservation is in line with SGNIC policies. |
|
|
|
17. How long does the promotion last? |
|
|
|
The promotion will be available from 1 January 2011
or until further notice from SGNIC. |
